Powracając do Toruńskiej tematyki, w trochę bardziej światowym wydaniu.

Wieża Toruń to projekt budynku, który ma stanąć w Istambule już w tym roku , niestety moje informacje na ten temat są ograniczone, ze względu na małą ilość wiadomości na ten temat w internecie. Sam projekt zakłada 44 piętra oraz 190 m wysokości. Sam budynek należy do tych z typu " Modern". Mają znajdować się w nim biura i pomieszczenia firmowe.

CSW Torun

CSW Torun

The most significant modern building in Torun is the Centre for Contemporary Art (known as "CSW" in Polish).

It has several exhibition spaces as well as a cinema and, as is essential for all modern museums, a good cafe too.

Construction began in 2006 as part of a "The Signs of Time" programme co-ordinated by the National Culture Center. CSW, the first post war purpose-built contemporary art gallery in Poland, was completed on 14th June 2008.

There are three floors with 4000 m² of exhibition space. The ground floor contains a  Cinema, a large room with kitchen space, an Art Bookstore and Sömmering's reading-room.

Building's special feature is one transparent wall with the spiral staircase visible from the outside. It's the first thing that people notice (to be honest it looks really nice in the evening).
I think this is the main element of the construction - without it it'd be just another bulding covered with bricks.

The first and second floor comprises exhibition rooms (height varying from 3.7 m to 7.26m).

Futurism: To Infinity & Beyond?

Well let's get all breathless and excitable about the wonders of technology, shall we? 

In my introductory post I mentioned my passion for the futurists who embraced technology from every angle. 

True, the food could be a bit weird and they probably liked killing people more than I did while they were a teeny bit fascistic in some places but in terms of presenting the pure excitement of new technology, frankly nobody did it better before or ever since...

There were all manner of schools of futurism and I rather liked this picture by Natalia Goncharova who was a member of the Russian futurist school of art.

This painting dates from 1913 when flight was in its infancy and women got dressed in more layers than the average astronaut nowadays. Nevertheless the cyclist looks like he has had a good dose of Lance Armstrong's favourite 'booster' such is the speed imbued in the image!

Fascinated by the dynamism, speed and unrelenting restlessness of modern industrial machinery and urban life, the Futurists often purposely sought to arouse controversy by repudiating the 'static' art of the period. This created a handy byproduct of publicity which they exploited through multiple manifestos, writings, demonstrations and frequently highly eccentric behaviour.

Zang Tumb Tuum, a phrase later used by Trevor Horn for the

record label which recorded "Propaganda" as well as "The Art of Noise."

The problem was that despite its faith in a rapid pace of innovation, the Futurist movement, was, ultimately overtaken by, well, the future.

After all, in the heyday of Futurism it was a common riposte to disparage opponents that they ought to be:

 "heaved overboard from the steamship of modernity!" 

Hmmm, enough said!

Anna began the odyssey of cities in our modest little design blog with the amazing industrial expanses further to the east while others have explored the magnificent historic vibrance of Rome, the stunning nature of San Francisco and of course mega-cities like London and New York and countless other great metropolitan areas have been mentioned.

However, while I have been lucky enough to visit, spend extended time and even live in multiple magnificent cities in the world, I am not going to rush to a massively popular mega-city despite the wondrous attractions of NY, SFO, London or wherever...

 Rather I am coming closer to the home of this blog, in fact right to the heart of this blog's home go mid-way between Gdansk and Warsaw on the Vistula River and you reach Torun, a Hanseatic (fresh water) port which is a jewel of medieval Poland...with the added advantage of a few modern touches too...

From the Star House with its museum of Asian antiquities to the Ratusz (old town hall) across the road and the Dwor Artus Guild Hall opposite, the old town square leads into a warren of fascinating medieval streets as befits a city first given its city status in 1231AD.

On every street corner the old town throbs with history, the place Napoleon stayed when he visited the birthplace of Copernicus, a true multi-disciplinarian genius: economist, astronomer, apothecary, military tactician, church administrator and much more!

 UNESCO recognised Torun as a world heritage city a decade ago - the funky lighting in some of the photos here was part of a 10th anniversary celebration of Torun's UNESCO status in December 2012.

Overall Torun isn't big (250,000 people) and it is in need of more tender loving care to bring the whole city up to a perfect level of preservation but it has a magnificent atmosphere that can only be found in genuine medieval cities - yes they were often fought over and true they have been vandalised over time (mostly by the cretinous forces of municipal government in past decades and centuries) but ultimately it's a beautiful place, a wonderful modern internet-connected city with an incredible future and thankfully was never destroyed by the all-out destructive warfare of the 20th century which ravaged so much of the European continent in particular.

So welcome to Torun, at the heart of the Vistula Vision and the home to the team at the Design Vistula blog. For me it's a little corner of municipal perfection, a historic gem with modern twists (e.g. Poland's only purpose built modern art gallery) in a fabulous, pulsating and wonderful world.

...Oh and there's great sushi too.

Gdy Anna rzuciła hasło-zadanie bojowo-blogowe “w tym tygodniu robimy najpiękniejsze miasta na ziemi” czułam, że głowa mi wiruje od nadmiaru miejsc, które uważam za piękne. Dopiero co udało mi się ułożyć w głowie “dizajn” moich następnych postów, już widziałam te słupki oglądalności lecące pod sufit, a tu nasz ‘Specjalist for Blog Relation’ ;) zburzył moje wizje popularności...


Nie tylko problem w tym, że jest tyle wspaniałych miejsc, a ja jeszcze tak mało widziałam, ale przede wszystkim, moje piękne miasto +Toruń  zasługuje na to, żeby zdyskwalifikować wszystkie inne wybory! Boże, ileż to cudownych zakątków kryje nasz Gród Kopernika, nie ma dnia, żebym przechodząc choćby przez toruńską starówkę, nie przystanęła w zdumieniu zauważając kolejny detal, szczegół na który wcześniej moje ułomne oko (tak, tak, okulista się kłaniania) nie zwróciło uwagi! Wiem jednak, że byłoby nie fair pisać post skoro w naszym gronie mamy +Dominikę której wiedza o naszym mieście jest nieocenionym skarbem!
Jako "kobitka" o zmiennych nastrojach czasem lubię powylegiwać się na słońcu, innym razem pobuszować po wystawach, by potem usiąść w kafejce i z satysfakcją obserwować mrówczy bieg przechodniów, kiedy indziej zaś dać upust mojej wewnętrznej zakupoholiczki.


Jak się jeszcze do tego doda dobre jedzenie to musi paść na miasto włoskie-a że moje nazwisko zobowiązuje, to mianuję najpiękniejszym miastem na ziemi Rzym!
Moja pierwsza wizyta w Wiecznym Mieście była bardzo dawno ale wrażenie, jakie wywarło na mnie jest ciągle żywe i to nie tylko z tego względu, że byłam wówczas zakochana po uszy we Włochu (a raczej jak lubią to podkreślać mieszkańcy stolicy-rzymianinie!).
przyjechałam na czas Wielkanocy (mimo natłoku pielgrzymek, kolejki do muzeów nie były takie straszne, do słynnego Koloseum uśmiechem utorowałam sobie drogę).
Dość już jednak mojej pisaniny-skupmy się na tym, co niezmiennie mnie urzeka w tym muzeum pod gołym niebem:
Wielkomiejski gwar:podróż Vespą wbrew wszelkim przepisom może początkowo przerażać, jednak z czasem sama wyszukiwałam szczeliny pomiędzy stojącymi ciasno w korku samochodami zastanawiając się czy tym razem uda nam się prześlizgnąć bez rysy na lusterku;

Magia fresków Michała Anioła w Kaplicy Sykstyńskiej; najwspanialsze dzieło tego geniusza malarstwa, rzeźby,  architektury i poezji. Moim ulubionym motywem jest "Stworzenie Adama"- równowaga i symetria nie przytłacza, mimo, że postaci mają prężne,umięśnione ciała, scena urzeka lekkością, no i ten zbliżający się palec boży-czuję dreszcze!
